NEW YEARS HONOURS

Eric Martin, 7a retired college lecturer, from Penn Drive in Liversedge, will also be taking a trip to London to collect his MBE for 50 years of volunteer work.

Mr Martin has long been involved with the Scout Association.

Following the Second World War, in which he served as a Lieutenant in the Paras parachute regiment, he volunteered with the Royal British Legion.

Originally from Undercliffe, Mr Martin, first became a scout with the 22nd Bradford East (St Clements) group. Later he became the secretary of the Spen Valley District Scout Fellowship and his love of aviation led to him becoming the advisor for air activities for West Yorkshire Scouts.

For the past 15 years he has been the welfare secretary for the Spenborough branch of the Royal British Legion.

A qualified social worker and swimming examiner, he was nominated by an old friend from the armed forces and told the T&A he was "extremely pleased" to be honoured.

Centenary Around The Corner

As we bid farewell to 2005 and welcome 2006, it is important to remember that this time next year our Centenary Celebrations will have already begun at the time of this posting with Balloon Launches around the County.

This year offers the chance to create together an unforgettable 2007, but we must ensure that 2006 and 2008 still offer chances to show the adventure of Scouting.

NIGHTS AWAY SURVEY

The Programme Team at Gilwell Park is keen to find out just how many 'nights away' young people can and do achieve between joining Beavers and leaving Explorer Scouts.
We know for example that some 6000 Nights Away (stage 5 - for 50 nights) were awarded last year - but how many Scouts now far exceed this figure? If you, or your Scouts have exceeded this amount, or you have a view about how we recognise residential experiences, the Programme team would very much like to hear from you on

JOIN THE FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT TEAM

The National Commissioner (Scout Fellowship) is currently seeking new members for his Support Team. Applications are specifically invited from experienced ‘front line’ adults such as Scout Fellowship members, ADC (Scout Fellowship) and ACC/AAC (Scout Fellowship). Candidates will need to have a sound understanding of the needs and current issues facing our volunteers, particularly relating to the role of the Scout Fellowship. Full details are available on www.scouts.org.uk/scoutbase or from the Adult Support Office on 0845 300 1818.

INCORRECT CRB FORMS

The Records Department at Scout HQ wish to alert all Scout Officials who process the CRB system at District, Area and County levels that there are currently in circulation an unknown number of misprinted and invalid CRB application forms. These "rogue" forms are distinguishable as follows: on the top left of the front page of the application you will see, instead of the name of The Scout Association, the name of a company entitled, LIFESTYLE CARE PLC located in London N12.
Please destroy any that are found. Any completed forms received at HQ on the misprinted stationery will be rejected and will need to re-submitted.

ROGER WILLIAMS CHALLENGE

In remembrance of Roger Williams, ex-County Commissioner for West Yorkshire, a number of initiatives are being launched which reflect directly on his passion for the outdoors.
